Almost 160 years ago, Abraham Lincoln recognized the value of intellectual property, and he became the first and only U.S. president who was an inventor on a U.S. patent, as well as an attorney who handled patent cases.  Of course, Lincoln represented hundreds of individuals in more common legal disputes, such as breach of contract claims.  One photo above shows the statute of Abraham Lincoln in front of the D.C. Intellectual Property

Patent law has changed dramatically since the passage of the America Invents Act in 2011.  Under the AIA, thousands of patent disputes are being resolved via post-grant proceedings, such as inter partes reviews and covered business method (CBM) reviews.  These expedited proceedings have fundamentally changed the value of intellectual property and how successful businesses procure, protect, and enforce intellectual property assets.
